Nights Like This

I often looked to the moon for answers

I would cry for her

sing to her

fall in love with her much like

that luminous sphere did

She would comfort me

on nights like this

when she was sitting low

and my hopes were high

Those craters

would spell out sonnets

piecing rhymes together

with reassurances of amour

I looked forward to her visits

On nights like this

On days like this

I would weep for her

ask the sun why

why would she run from me

But he would just laugh

I could hear it

in the balls of rays

that flittered on my face

his humor mocked me

But his satire tasted of tears
