What a merry little time

Children scuttling along sidewalks

with their eyes shinning

kicking leaves

and smiling sweet things

wearing clothes in disguise

What luck I have

to not have to costume my eyes

A pious soul I am

for all hallows eve

I do not fall ill to the trickery

I smile just as wide

when that fog palls

When those souls return

and children scurry on their ways

Their feet hit the ground

like chattering bones

hysterical laughs

and crimson eyes

jack-o-lantern teeth

I watch them fall

a piper and a feast

pied paper bags

the spirits follow me
